Hello fellow newcomers and neighbors!
I am writing this the day after a fantastic August Happy Hour. 39 attendees — including 6 new members — had a great time chatting, learning, making new friends, and sharing memories. I look forward to these Happy Hours which make me feel so connected to the Evergreen community. Thanks go to former ENN president Riley Hanback for organizing them.
Speaking of Happy Hours, we are making a few changes to the schedule. In the past we have selected a day (always a Tuesday) in the middle of the month, either the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday. To make things simpler going forward, we will consistently hold them on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 4-6 pm. Go ahead right now and have Siri or Alexa put them in your calendar . On September 17 join us at Revival Brews in downtown Evergreen; on October 15 we’ll be at The Wild Game. Be ready to have a good time!
Our big event is our Open House on October 5th at Buchanan Park Rec Center from 10 am — 12 pm. This is a great way for you to see what other activity groups we offer and to tell us what you’re not seeing. We will do all we can to make your ideas come true! Please bring a neighbor or friend, have some coffee and pastries on us, and explore all that we offer. Many thanks to the tireless John Sharp for pulling this event together, and to our publicity committee of Sandy Illich, Aliya Duffy, and Lee Anne Powers for deftly handling outreach.
What else are we doing now? We are busy planning our Winter Party. We are looking at a January date in order to avoid the busy schedules and family commitments people often have in December. More to come.
The other thing about winter here is that it can be cold. Carol Goss, our Community Outreach Chair, has worked hard to put together our annual firewood drive delivering some 11 cords of wood to EChO for distribution to those in need of winter fuel. See the write-up in this newsletter.
I guess that’s a fair summary of our club. We make new friends, we do things together, we help others, and we have fun. Not a bad way to spend time.
