Mah Jongg is a tile based game that was developed in China during the Qing Dynasty. Similar to the Western card game Gin Rummy, Mah Jongg is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation but also involves a degree of chance.
The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. In most variations, each player begins by receiving 13 tiles. In turn players draw and discard tiles until they complete a legal hand. In North America, legal hands are created annually by the National Mah Jongg League. Cards are available annually for $9 for large print card, $8 for smaller card.
ALL ARE WELCOME! The leader has been playing Mah Jongg for about 5 years and is happy to both teach the game to new players and coordinate a weekly game for veteran players. Please email if you have an interest in joining the group.
