FOCUS ON GIVING/COMMUNITY OUTREACHWe made it through "the holidays", full, warm, and well gifted. Not everyone in the Evergreen area was as fortunate. Many received food and clothing donations through special holiday efforts made by local charities - but their need is ongoing. Evergreen Newcomers Club would like to make a special effort in February and March to help replenish the ECHO Food Bank. The Food Bank (303-670-17960), located on Hwy 74, has been especially hard hit due to current problems in the Jefferson County System. E.N.C. would like to strongly encourage all members to bring non-perishable canned goods, warm clothing, blankets, toiletries and toilet paper to their monthly activity. Group leaders may contact an E.N.C. Board Member for pickup or drop off the donated items directly to ECHO on Hwy. 74 (past Meadow Drive toward Kittredge on the Bear Creek side.) Questions? Contact: Mary Ellen Nelson Community Outreach maryellensings@gmail.com To check the "current needs list" see page 9 of the newsletter or EvergreenChristianOutreach.org 303-670-1796 (donations) 303-670-1790 (volunteer opportunities)

REFLECTIONS
The holiday season
was full of gift-giving, celebrations with family and friends, hopes of peace
on earth and feelings of goodwill to our fellow human beings. People seemed ensconced in good feelings
which radiated even to casual passers-by.
The warm glow was magical, something you wish would last forever.
Now the gifts are
opened, the tree’s reason for being has passed, and the feasting on food and
fellowship is over. A new year is here,
an opportunity to decide how to go about meeting a whole new year of life. This is the time we take stock and make
resolutions, planning to improve at least some aspects of our lives – to lose
weight and exercise more, to spend more time with our children or to give more
of ourselves to help others, to develop our talents, whatever. And, with the first of the year, it is time to
put those plans into action.
In the past I have
made resolutions with sincerity; I may have even made some headway for a
while. But soon the improvement plan
would slip out of my schedule, leaving me with guilt for failing, once again,
to bring my good intentions to fruition.
This time of
taking stock annually and wanting to become a better person is surely
commendable. I wonder though if, rather
than focusing on various resolutions, we might see more results in our lives by
simply working to keep alive the love, goodwill and hope the holidays
engendered.
What results might
we get from making those attitudes and feelings an active part of both our
internal and our external lives? By
celebrating the good in others and recognizing it in ourselves, by refusing to
lose hope for a more peaceful world and nourishing the peace within ourselves,
is it possible we could actually contribute in some small way to bringing a
measure of goodwill and peace to our world?

of winter in Evergreen by participating in two upcoming events!
Lunch at
Saturday, January 12, 2008
12:00 PM
Please join us for our second monthly lunch gathering! A great mix of “old” and new members met at the Bistro in November and had a memorable time. We look forward to repeating that experience.
Saigon Landing is located in the heart of Evergreen just up the hill from the Little Bear and is well known for it’s Vietnamese cuisine and great service! You can review their menu selections by logging on to www.saigonlanding.com.
Pre-payment is not required as participants will cover their own check and gratuity. However, we must provide them with the number of participants by January 7th, so if you plan to attend please email jawill@mindspring.com or call Jane Hillman at 303-670-7127 by that date.
February 1, 2008
5:00-7:00 PM
Newcomers is sponsoring a cocktail and

SPOTLIGHT ON ACTIVITY LEADER SALLY WILLIAMS (BOOK GROUP III)
When was the last time you read a great book and then tossed around your
thoughts about the book with other people who had also read it? That's what the
three Evergreen Newcomers Book Groups are all about. Sally Williams, who has
been in Newcomers for more than two years, has been leading Book Group III for
a year and a half. This group meets to discuss a new book every 4th Wednesday
of the month, usually at the Rocky Mountain Village Estates. It is always an
enjoyable gathering where reflections on each book are shared, expanded and mulled
over.
Sally could write a book on her various experiences in the many amazing places
she and her family have lived over the years. In addition to
If you are interested in talking with Sally about Book Group III, you can
contact her at 303-670-8133 or sncwilliams@evcohs.com. If you are interested in
joining one of the existing book groups or starting up a new one, contact Bette
Carcano at 303-670-1527 or bcarcano@earthlink.net. Happy
