ARE YOU COVERED?

ANNUAL INSURANCE REMINDER

Last year’s Board met with the insurance agent who underwrites the policy that covers our organization.  As a result of that discussion, each year we remind our club members of the portion of our coverage that involves our membership.  Many of our activities are held in homes and many activities are risk-free.  There are some functions that could pose liability issues; therefore we felt it important that members be fully informed as to the coverage our policy providesWhile we are making no recommendations as to what kind of riders are necessary, those of you who regularly host groups in your homes may want to revisit your individual policies to make sure you have the coverage you are most comfortable with.  .

For questions or input about this subject, please contact:

Dick Sperry, Membership:  303-670-0415 / rsperry@iesco.com

The following is a brief overview of the policy and its parameters as prepared by our agent:

 Commercial General Liability Form: Occurrence

The insurer (insurance company) agrees to pay all sums the insured becomes legally obligated to pay as damages, up to the limits of liability written ($500,000 occurrence limit/$1,000,000 aggregate limit) because of bodily injury (BI) or property damage (PD) to which the insurance applies to third parties only.  The definition of insured includes members, managers, officers, and directors, but only to respect to activities of the Evergreen Newcomers Club.  Because “members” are named insureds, they are excluded from suing the Club under the liability provisions of the policy.

Club Functions Held at Members’ Homes

The Club’s general liability coverage does extend to the members’ premises (homes) but only if a guest, not a Club member, should be injured on the premises.  Liquor Liability does not apply to the members’ homes.  With this being said, we suggest all members contact their personal homeowner’s insurance carrier to make sure their homeowner’s policy includes Liability coverage for functions being held at their home and the homeowner’s policy extends to cover Host Liquor Liability.

As in any liability policy, there are conditions and exclusions that apply.  All occurrences should be reported immediately to the following office for review:

GET TO KNOW …   ANNA MARIE NELSON

George and Anna Marie Nelson at Linkwasha Safari

Camp in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

December 2005

Only a few months after moving to Evergreen, Anna Marie Nelson is already an active member of Newcomers who serves as Activities co-Chair on the Club’s board. By the time she retired, she had been a high school and junior high school English teacher and run the quick oil change businesses she and her husband George had started.

After spending 35 years in Chicago, she and George moved to Evergreen to be near one of their two sons and his family and to enjoy the area they had come to love from visiting over the years.   She says living in Colorado is like being on vacation all the time, and she loves our sunshine --imagine that!

Anna Marie is a gourmet cook who particularly enjoys making dishes in both country French and Greek cuisines, and she loves to read.  A gardener, she is learning the craft of gardening with elk and deer as she makes landscaping plans for their new home.  She and George love to travel internationally and make at least one trip a year.  This summer they were in France; in October they are heading to Egypt. On a trip to Africa, she saw a disturbing lack of books in the schools; as a result, she is determined to find a means of acquiring books and the financial backing to get them to needy African schools.  Between all these activities, she works out twice a week with a personal trainer and spends time with her two young granddaughters, ages 7 and 9.

Anna Marie is a multi-talented, energetic addition to your board and to the Evergreen community at large!
