Are You Covered?

At our Club’s December board meeting, officers met with the insurance agent who underwrites the policy that covers our organization.  As a result of that discussion, we felt it important to inform everyone of the coverage that involves our membership.  Many of our activities are held in homes and many activities are risk-free.  There are some functions that could pose liability issues, and therefore, we felt it important that members be fully informed as to the coverage our policy provides.  While we are making no recommendations as to what kind of riders are necessary, those of you who regularly host groups in your homes may want to revisit your individual policies to make sure you have the coverage you are most comfortable with.  See Page 10 for policy details and further information.  If you’d like to give us your input about this subject, please contact one of our board members and we’ll present your comments at the next board meeting on February 5th.

President’s Message

This has been a season that once again instructs us that while we can make elaborate plans, Mother Nature is still in charge.  I’ve heard stories of members being stranded in the airport for 48 hours because they couldn’t get back to their car after the flight was cancelled, others ended up driving 1,000 miles to be with their families for the holidays because the airport was closed.  Our neighbors drove to Grand Junction to get on a plane chartered for them so they could attend the unexpected funeral of their mother in California.  After spending two years planning a week long destination Christmas in Mexico with all of our children, we settled for two days with one family, another daughter only managed to get to Denver in time to pick us up from the airport and two daughters were home tending new babies.  Best laid plans…

With all of the disruption the weather has caused, flexibility needs to be in great supply.  In spite of the disappointments, I’ve been awed by the beauty resulting from the snow and frigid temperatures treating us to days of snow flocked trees.  We’ve had time to relax with friends, read lots of books and be grateful for health and strength.  Life is good.

May all of you have the inner resources to cope with the twists and turns in your lives.

A few blizzards didn’t keep us from our book discussion last month!  The hardy souls that made it through the snow enjoyed a lively discussion.  Our book for February is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls and will be led by Lyn.  We will meet at Dawn’s home at 9:30 a.m. on February 12th and, because of limited parking, car pools will meet at Albertson’s parking lot at 9:15.  See you there come snow or more snow.

Our meeting this month will be at the new fire station on Bergen Parkway on February 19th at 9:30 a.m.  We will discuss Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I’ve Learned by Alan Alda.  As you can tell from the title, this isn’t the most serious discussion we will ever have!  Our book for March is Water Elephants by Sara Gruen, for those of you who would like to read ahead.

We had a large group last month and a lot of fun!  Everyone’s score seems to be getting better and better.  We also enjoy having new members join our group, so come join us if you haven’t already!  Once again, we’ll meet at Jillian’s in the Colorado Mills Mall on Thursday, February 1st at 6:30 p.m.  We typically play two games.  There are no teams and all levels are welcome.  See ya at the alley!

We’ll kick off 2007 on February 24th with a couple of easy trails: York Gulch and Yankee Hill Road.  York Gulch departs from Fall River Road just west of Idaho Springs and proceeds uphill to intersect with Yankee Hill Road at 9,500’ elevation.  From there, we’ll turn east and head for Central City.  As usual for this time of year, snow pack will be the determining factor for whether we complete the intended journey!
